Details

HBCU 20x20 is proud to announce its fifth cohort for our HBCU 20x20 Tech FORWARD// Fellowship program for Black college students.

 

This paid 8-week program will explore the hard and soft skills needed to succeed in tech, while providing you with an opportunity to interview for Summer and Fall 2023 internships and full-time opportunities.

It's imperative for Black college students to use the knowledge gained inside and outside of the classroom to secure careers in the field of tech, and our program is dedicated to moving you one step closer!


Program Requirements

  • Currently a Black college student enrolled in an associates, undergrad, or graduate degree program.
  • Some experience in a coding language including, but not limited to, C++, Python, JavaScript, or SQL.
  • Ability to participate in the full 8-week program for 1 hour on Tuesdays and 1 hour on Thursdays from October 5th-November 23rd.
  • Currently looking for Summer and Fall 2023 internship or full-time roles.

Fall 2022 Agenda

Week One: Welcome

We're kicking HBCU 20x20's Tech FORWARD// with an introduction to the program, followed by an all-star panel discussion with Black professionals in the tech industry.

Week Two: Getting Through the Technical Interview

HackerRank, Codility, Devskiller are just some of the technical assessment platforms used by companies to gain better insight into your technical abilities. Practice makes perfect, but the first step is understanding. We'll work through this together.

Week Three: Developing a Portfolio

Your portfolio speaks for you before you ever have the chance. This week, we'll be discussing the importance of developing your tech portfolio that demonstrates your work and projects and provide resources to create your portfolio.

Week Four: Diversity in Tech?

 The Black Lives Matter movement has catapulted companies to become more intentional about diversity and inclusion... right? We'll be joined by leaders in the DEI space who will share their journeys, the work they are doing to make clear pathways for the HBCU community, and what participants can do to stand out.

Week Five: Exploring Careers in Tech

 

Are you interested in becoming a Full Stack, Back-End, DevOps or Front-End
Developer? How about a Data Scientist, UX Designer, or Data Analyst? There are so many career routes in tech, and we will explore them all with professionals.

Week Six: Web3

Web3 is a new iteration of the internet that has boomed in the recent years. This week, we'll explore more about Web3, its relevance and the career opportunities available.

Week Seven: Interview Week

 

HBCU 20x20 is fortunate to have amazing partners that are setting aside internship and full-time opportunities for participants in our program. This week, fellows will apply what you learned over the course of the previous weeks, and interview for those available opportunities held exclusively for our program. 

Week Eight: Culmination

It wasn't easy, but you made it! This week we will finish up our program by providing our participants with the guidance they need to continue their journey in the tech world. Fellows will be matched with a mentor, and we're honored to have a surprise speaker close our program out.

Opening Panel: Blacks in Tech

Compiled v. Interpreted Languages

Understanding programming languages is a fundamental in the world of tech.


Whether you use Python, C++, Java, or any of the other languages, it's important to understand the differences between interpreted and compiled languages. We'll break them down.
